I remember running NHRA Div. 1 events... took three days to run 1 race. I was just getting started in Stock at the time, so I took it as "that's how it was supposed to be", and took it all in as an experience. Now, I'm more than happy to run 2 events in 2 days.

........and the season opener at Immokalee, FL was 3 races in 3 days!

The only down-side is winning a race late in the season after you get all your claims in!

Myron,
Never a downside to winning a race.

Greg,
Have you ever been to an IHRA double. The IHRA portion is usually done by the evening. Then the track takes over for a bracket race that you don't have to run.
Typical post I would expect from a traditional NHRA BRAINWASHED racer.

Doubles are great
2 claims in one weekend.
2 Chances at an ironman in one weekend.
Gone from home only one weekend
Towed to the track once.
What are you guys missing here. Oops I forgot Thats not the way NHRA does it.

Greg,
Have to agree with you on this, besides the three day-one race gives ya time to visit your racing buddy's. And at my age that's just about as much fun as racing. Aha to be your age,you kids are all alike...........................

36 is old?

Double-headers are rarely sleep-depriving. Heck, when I was a kid, we went to the NHRA Div. 1 race at Numidia. Drive 45 min to track Friday. Make 2 qualifying runs. Drive 1-1/2 hrs to Beaver Springs, race. Drive 45 min home. Saturday, drive 45 to Numidia, make 2 qualifying runs, drive to Billy Nees's shop, swap converters, drive to Beaver Springs again and race. Sunday, got busted 1st round in a heads-up run at Numidia, drive to Beaver Springs and race... so even with the large car counts and alky cars, there was time for me to run 6 races in three days.

Last year, made my two qualifying runs at Piedmont, drove 2-1/2 hrs to Pageland, runnered-up there, drove home, back to Piedmont Sunday and won. Douglas double-header, I was in the semis on Saturday, 6:14PM, semis at MIR 4:55PM. Darlington, made two qualifying runs, went to Pageland and won, and was back to Darlington before it rained Saturday night. Jackson, SC went long on Saturday last year, but that was due to rain forcing a full-track scraping, so that one *was* 2:30am when I won, but heck, we didn't run 2nd round until 12:43am. Sunday's race, I won at 4:34pm. I think it was like 9pm on Saturday night at Jackson the year before, and that's with a big car count, plus all the 'show' stuff.

What time did y'all finish up on Saturday at MIR, Chip? About 6:30?

6:14 when I stoped at the trailer to call my wife and tell her to go to Capt Billys without me (Family dinner with a bunch of Aunts,Uncles, and cousins) I was going to get my picture took.

In 1996 I was about 31. I won S/p and R/u in FB at Rockingham on saturday night. Left there at 2:00 a.m for Atlanta. Got R/U in the b&m race. Left there at 10:00 p.m for a Labor Day race at Piedmont got beat first rd. went home and slept for 2 days. Those were the days.

I remember putting motor in car driving all night to Montgomery for the first DRUSA Footbarke allstar race.
Redlighted first rd to myron. Left for Darlington IHRA bracket finals got beat first rd there too.

Lots of stories like these I could right a book.

If you would rather cookout than race so be it. Thats the beauty of this country we have choices.

Guys, I suggested the possibility of limiting the field to only 1/2 the usual classes for one event. That would allow efficient running twice with no added time needed. Then next event location run the other 1/2 of the classes twice. Indy S , SS, Comp and T/S alcohol funny or Dragster, then Columbus or where ever run the S/G, S/C , S/St group with two eliminators at the one race.. Same deal
Like I said the BIG issue is missing the friends from other classes at the meet.
Positive is Less trailers, possibly better driving second race,
I in no way would support extending the racing later at night. This is supposed to be fun not punishment. I have run or been family support to 4 in the morning at a rain delay and once left when I was to 8 cars in a points meet to drive the 8 hr trip home to work at 7 AM showering going down the road. THAT REALLY SUCKS.

Two races in one weekend is the greatest thing since sliced bread for the non-touring pros among us. I like IHRA's format and also like it when NHRA does a Fri/Sat race or the rarity of a double (SGMP 2005). It doesn't work in the winter Div. 2 races due to the car count, and probably would not work in Div. 1 either, but it should be done when possible - especially with $5 diesel on the way for the summer.
