What about the property adjacent to Phoenix Raceway?

There's plenty of land in the area west of the Raceway. Granted, it's parking lots, but there's plenty of room there. HELL, even one of the access roads in the lots is named Dragstrip Rd.!! Lay the strip down on W. South Mountain Ave., jus sayin...

So far, I haven't found out what the definite plan is for this "interchange". Yet, the track must close next February.
Nothing was even mentioned about it, a year and a half ago.
None of these proposals would take up much of the track land , if at all.

In the late 60s Dragstrip Rd was the dragstrip at Phoenix International Raceway. The shutdown area went into the oval track. Several people were killed trying to negotiate the turn/s and the dragstrip was shut down. Often wondered why some larger Nascar tracks could not build a dragstrip within their complex. I often refer back to one of the best tracks of it's time, Ontario Motor Speedway which had a dragstrip on pit road of the oval track. Would not take a lot of expendature to start one up also.

There's some cool history. It's a shame the shutdown area didn't provide those unfortunate few a safe place. Imagine what could've been if it never happened. It's ironic you mention Ontario Motor Speedway. I just drove over the old fourth turn and main straightway tonight to have dinner in a restaurant outside the old main grandstand location. If I'm not mistaken a few of the NAPCAR tracks, Atlanta, Kansas, and Texas have dragstrips on their pit road now.

Yeah, Bruton Smith is one helluva track(s) property owner. I sure we all know the awesomeness of his facilities.
