Graduating Up

It might motivate some youngsters wanting to move up if more of the PRO interviews was less about drama and their sponsors and more representative of people they actually can identify with and maybe even like. Recall “back in the day” interviews with Melanie Troxel and she had grease and clutch dust all over her, and we all know what happened there. Kids can identify more with sportsman and bracket racers, the really good people in PRO classes are simply getting harder to find.

John,Your post makes me think of Mike Salinas and the Scrappers team.
Mr.Salinas is a perfect example of what a lot of hard work and determination can do. Neither of which I have in abundance
The feature they aired about him (last season I think) literally moved me to tears. They are a very close family and doing what they love. I would much rather watch an interview with one his team than Brittany or Leah or Hagen... although I do admire them too. I would bet if any corporate sponsors approached Mr.Salinas he would insist that they would still race and present themselves as a family.

I am sure it was very hard to be a successful Pro then, I am sure it is

The new factory experimental class might be an opportunity to move up the ranks. It wouldn't be cheap or easy but it seems more doable than getting a shot at the pro categories.

If the rumor mill has it right, it might end up becoming pro stock. Then, again, it might end up becoming pro stock truck. If someone has the means and drive to put a program together, it may be worth the gamble.

Technology has outpaced Drag Racing. The reason I started drag racing was to go fast safely. A 13.00 street car in 1976 was great to drive on the street and bracket race. now search out a 2007 dodge charger with a hemi and a couple add ons and it is illegal to race because it is faster than 11.50. bolt on a procharger(technology) and run 9's with a little tuning. So why get into legal drag racing when you street car is as fast as most bracket door cars. or go to your local speed raceway, get in superfast electric cart and have fun for the same cost as the gamblers race
