Billy- What happens when the "aftermarket heads" get the HP hit? Does it effect the "stock head" HP Factor too? |

IMHO, if the aftermarket head (carrying a +10 factor) gets a HP hit then yes, it should affect the stock head. The point of my side of this conversation is that whatever the "stock head" HP factor is, the "aftermarket head" factor should be +10! These "aftermarket" heads were not handed out to be of any advantage other than that of access to the Racer. If the Racer chooses to take advantage of the ease of access provided by the "aftermarket" head then the Racer should be willing to accept the +10 HP/weight penalty.

Aluminum or replacement heads - Some received a 10 hp adjustment and others 5. On our 318 combo we petitioned NHRA for the 5 hp like our Chevy bros recd and we got it. Noticed some bb chevy also recd 10. Not sure the thinking with NHRA. Typo?
All the engine gurus i talk to say the aluminum head loses 15 hp apples to apples. I'm thinking untouched that is probably correct but with the better combustion chambers etc who knows. So if an aluminum is untouched there could be a hp reduction under the then current factored rating. I know our 340 aluminum ss cant compare to the steel head factor. +17 hp difference on aluminum, not 10 or 5. Last edited by Mike Volkman; 02-07-2022 at 04:33 PM. |

Maybe they (NHRA) could use their recently enacted Rescission policy!

What class factor is required for a combo to be obsoleted from Stock Eliminator?
I understand that 7.50 is the factor for AA....but can the combo be any amount under 7.50 and still be allowed to run AA? Or what is the lowest threshold class factor still allowed in stock? Is a 6.95 class factor allowed to run in AA still?

Not sure I'm on the right subject here. Check out the 71 440 6bbl Roadrunner. It can run A/SA. AA/SA with a Hemi. It is also a natural E/SA with a 340. Some weight got trimmed off that car. Cool makes a new combination in lighter trim.

Hopefully the Mopar big blocks 6 pack combos can get an HP break so we can keep up with the others.
The cars have to weigh almost 4000 lbs Trying to run with cars that make the same power that weigh 3400 lbs. It's now like taking a knife gun fight. |

Paul, help me out here maybe I'm confused. The 71 RR 6pak can run A/SA has a lesser shipping weight than GTX. So RR is a natural B and GTX is a Natural C makes sense, Got it. NOW in 1970 both are natural C and the RR has a higher shipping weight, this doesn't seem right??? RR was always the lighter package.

Did this go away when the AA/BB/CC classes were used in the interim roughly 10 years ago, when new weight classes were introduced. I have always heard of a car getting "outfactored" from stock eliminator but never seen it. BUT where is it written that there is a lower threshold to still be able to run stock? If there is no lower threshold, then any combo with a class factor lower than 7.50 would be restricted to AA only, and adhering to the 7.50 weight calculation factor.
