Back in the 1980's when I raced at the US Nationals at Indy, every class winner made the trip to Paul Harvey Ford in downtown Indianapolis to remove a cylinder head for certification. But it got better because Dave Danish, NHRA Tech head, would take a trip around the teardown area and choose a small number of cars from which he wanted to see a rod/piston. This is a sure way of catching those racers who pushed the rules too far and 'crossed the line'.

Well, although not the optimum schedule for Indy, and the AHFS probably kept people away, I think with NHRA doing teardowns it shows they are trying.
The schedule change and teardowns may have been a result of talking to the racer panel (SRAC?) If so it at least means they are willing to listen.
