One of the reason I have stayed in sportsman. The car was my high school daily driver, and I'm not interested in filling it full of tubes.

I understand your reasoning, BUT ….when you race a COPO / MUSTANG that hits the brakes too hard at the stripe and gets out of control …..you and your FAMILY will WISH you had a roll bar and all the safety items …..

NHRA STOCK and SuperStock looks like a lot of fun but, it's much more work than Sportman racing, much more expensive, much more traveling expensive, and entry fees are 3 times as expensive with basically the same payout with exception to contingency which is hard to get paid once you do win or runner up in NHRA.

That being said I wish you well but...... for $50,000 you can own a Lebanon Dealer installed Whipple Ford Mustang that will run all three brackets and does not need any safety devices as long as you keep it under 135mph in 1/4 mile.

I inquired with Mike Rice of this vehicle and as of last season you can run 10.00 at 135 mph with minimal safety equipment " no roll bar or cage, etc. It is dealer installed supercharger and on pump gas and comes with 36,000 mile warranty.

Good luck
F776 Sportman/Pro

Chad Voges I think runs a 289 225 set up like yours. Maybe he can help?

I always heard the lower stock classes were easier to get into

Perfect. Thanks all. About the advise I was looking for. Now I'll add a little context. I wrench for a living, but prefer when I get to do it for a hobby. I have a history of doing more with less. I try to make 300 laps+ a year, and don't mind swapping hard parts to make a combination more efficient. I was raised by a man that spent 30ish years working for Ford, so I've had a small block or 2 apart. I know what the stripe looks like when the other lane is carrying 50 mph on me (not that I judge it well yet) I love the challenge of tight restrictions and doing it clean. I have one daughter the runs a Jr. And one more starting next year, so running races they are not is a good situation for me. My motorhome loves the freeway, so Nevada, California, Oregon, Idaho and Montana are "short" trips to my family. And if I was looking to recoup my costs with a steering wheel in my hand I'd drive an Uber. Like I said, making dumb decisions for fun for a long time. Keep it coming. I honestly expected more abuse.

M/SA requires a rollbar and N/SA does not. It can always be removed when you are done. Obviously you know the engine requirements to run stock. Unless you run into a heads up race. A 12.99 in the heat of the day in N/SA will be good enough to win. A good sealed up bore and the right stock class camshaft should do that. Spend some good money on a torque converter and the correct gearing in the transmission and rear axle. Find a guy like Deano carburetors to give you a good piece and away you go.

Enjoy!

Class racing in like injecting a needle in your arm. You'll be hooked and it's controls your being. LOL! Oh yeah, good luck, you'll need it.
