Oh, no! Sammy was always one of my favorites. I recently ran into the best friend of his wife in Wash DC and we had great laughs talking about him. So sad. Prayers for his family. The Dago is gone to fish in a much better place!

We lost a great racer and my friend. Sad news. How did we meet? My first Indy when all the rigs were stacked in the grass field, Jane had made a large gumbo in the rig. Not wanting to waste, she sent me out to find a Louisana plate and invite them over. You guessed it Sammy and Dago!!! Sure will miss him. Stephen

Unfortunately I never met him, but I knew all about him. A sharp racer with fast Oldsmobile's. I've been a fan of Olds, Pontiac, and Buick race cars since I was a kid. My sympathies to his family, and friends.

RIP Sammy , met him once, he and I ran the same combo in our cars(400/427) , Sad and certainly surprised that he has passed. Seems like just yesterday he was posting on here. May his family and friends be comforted at this time.

He was a champion in many ways
