Amen, they aren’t referred to as the Greatest Generation for nothing. Made almost unimaginable sacrifices for a noble cause. Some of those war years must have seemed very dark indeed but those men and women were the light in the darkness.

America would NOT be the country it is without the sacrifices of these brave men and women. Our troops then and now deserve WAY MORE praise then they get. God Bless our veterans and troops.

If you can, buy a veteran a meal. It is money well spent.

For me this passing is evermore poignant having been raised by parents of this very greatest generation.

My father whom upon learning of the bombing of Pearl Harbor forged a birth certificate claiming he was ten years younger allowing him to enlist in the U.S. NAVY a ruse he maintained even after the war until finally retiring at 76 years old. And my mother as an 18 year old, one of many Hungarian refugees fleeing the Russian advance in the east who attempted to take refuge in Dresden in February of 1945 only to be thrust into the crucible of that infamous fire bombing...

As a student of military history, I am in awe of you still today ... As your son profoundly grateful for the resolve you instilled in me!

My late father, 1st Lt. Theodore Don (bottom row far right in picture), was a bombardier on a B-17. He was shot down on his second mission and rescued in the North Sea by a British patrol boat. He went on to complete 25 missions. RIP, Dad.
