Cool Re: Car Name Memories

Back in our Orange County and Riverside Raceway bracket racing days, I had a white '63 Chevy Bel Air 2dr post car named Rapid Transit. It had a 409 with an A-1 Powerglide, a 12 bolt out of a Chevelle, and 4.56 gears. It ran 12.20's on a not real good day, but with a little tuning and fudging, it went 11.91 at about 9 PM at the County one night. It was a pretty good 12.45-12.60 car at Riverside. It had been a race car since about 1968, and both wind wings had San Fernando Drag Strip winner stickers. I sold it to one of my best buddies in San Diego, he has a rather docile big W motor in it, and it goes 11.75 most of the time. He just is in the process of getting it painted Ermine White, and it's getting some new moldings and stuff to finish it up. Glad its still around! P.S. I still have the 409 engine out of it.

Continuing the "RAT" theme, at Mission Raceway in the 70s, there was a 396 66 Chevelle with "Aristo-RAT" lettered on the doors. Other locals included "Suddenly", "Blue Heaven" Last Chance" "Sweet Revenge", "Street Kleaner", "Frantic Affair", "Kid Dyno Mite", "Catch 22", "Rapid Rickshaw", "Tantrum", "Infinity", "Green Mosquito", "Blue Bolt", "Gold Rush" and "Fido Wagon" , among many others. Even if you didn`t know who the owner or driver was, chances are the car name stuck in your head. Obviously some stuck in mine!

“ No Big Thing” 427 BBC Vespa. “ Vanishing Vega “ this car is about to return to the track. And a favorite car of mine “ Black Magic” black 69’ Camaro ran brackets and SG around Chicago area. Would add the owners name but I probably won’t spell it right.
