No I never raced in Denver. My point is being missed by some though. What's the difference if number 1 qualifier at Denver is -.60 in Stock or -1.12 under in Gainesville? The factoring is to make people feel better about their performance. It's a placebo. I also feel the same way about a mineshaft condition.
Lets say 60 car field and number 1 is -1.19 but only 30 cars are -.851 and you've been laying back. Your car can go -.90 but the number 1 qualifier is a guy or combo you don't like. You control the fate of it being a mineshaft. Is that okay?

I don't think it is about the #1 qualifiers, it would be the ones at the bottom of the sheet that may not be able to run the index if the tracks weren't factored. Why shut them out?

Zero ego here. Also, never really considered the not able to run the index factor, which is a very valid point! Division 1 BTW doesn't run in very good air most of the time. But not really looking for a pissing contest.
My perspective is that Stock, SS & Comp are all performance based classes at least supposed to be. Performance gains are just the nature of the sport. If we weren't all chasing that carrot we'd still be running 11.70's in A/SA trim. It sucks when someone hits your combo. No doubt. But we all aspire to be able to be that person at some time or another. As long as they do it legally, then so be it.

Not good enough to get a mineshaft condition at most of the races. Already said I don't want it to be a pissing contest.
