I feel that this mess has cured me from going to the us nationals. nhra did not have any plan at all in place. They did not have enough people parking the rigs. Lets face it. During this time of the year in Indy it rains almost every time during the nationals.I have been to this race race since 1987 and the races that it did not rain were far and few between. On another note they need to make this race go fast or go home. They have added top sportsman and top dragster. Super gas and super do not fit this description. The pits are not big enough to accommodate any more cars. This fiasco is a testament to this. I was pitted it a spot that was on a 15 degree slant to one side. THIS IS UNACCAPTABLE.THE GRASS WAS ANKLE DEEP. THIS IS UNACCAPTABLE.

So did nhra vp in charge of parking walk through sportsman pits with kick me pinned to the seat of his pants. Never could figure this stacking thing out . Talk about a fire hazard could you imagine being parked 4 deep in 10 rigs front and back. Rig in front of you starts on fire at 2am. How would fire dept put that mess out.

I spoke with a person involved in the parking. This years crew was cut in half from last year and the supervisor was the only one with parking experience. The track opened 930am Sunday staging in the grass, 100 rigs could have been parked easily. Anyone with internet knew the 70-90% rain forecast would happen Monday thru Tuesday. As far as parking help goes it was funny there was a parking attendant for sportsman golf carts at the grandstand.

I think people should quit guessing what the problem was with parking at Indy. It was a joke. The SRAC Reps from every division and every class should address this with a united effort. While NHRA can’t control the weather everyone could see the forecast and they could have adapted to the situation by parking people as they arrived. Parking earlier would have allowed an earlier start on the first day which might have meant an earlier finish on Sunday.

I know they couldn't control the weather, but poor planning is inexusable. I was one of the last ones in and around 11am one of the NHRA officials came down to the holding lot and told us, "I don't know where we're going to put you but we're working on a plan". That in my mind was inexusable not to have a Plan A, B, C, etc ready and waiting for all scenarios at the biggest race of the year.
I also found it frustrating, when being parked, to pass numerous racers that had 3, 4 and in a couple scenarios, 5 spots saved for folks that weren't there yet, and remember, this was 2:00ish on Wednesday when I was getting parked. |
