I had Marathons for about 4-5 years. Never lost one. Made it home from Maple Grove 2 years ago and at least one tire was in such bad shape I don't know how it did not come apart. Tread was coming off.
I replaced them all with the new Goodyear Endurance E rated tires. Used them for a year and they are looking good. Got a nail in one and had to replace it.... They are supposedly made in the USA and a real good looking tire....

Depends on how fast you tow, also. 15" Trailer tires I have seen were Speed Rated at 65 MPH. Posted Speed Limits on Oklahoma Turnpikes is 75. I learned to not do that on the 15" Goodyear tires that came on my trailer. When stopping for fuel, etc, we could always smell them. Should have told me something. Had too many come apart. I found the six lug 16" wheels off the '99 3/4 ton Suburban I tow with also fit six lug trailer hubs. I changed my trailer to 16" six lug wheels, put brakes on both axles while I was at it. Now have the same 16" Michelins on the trailer as the Suburban. Trailer is more stable now, no longer smell hot tires, and they are Speed Rated at (IIRC) 114 MPH. Same spare fits either. I have learned, over the years, Michlean tires to last longer than any others I've owned. I put them on everything.

WE used FORD 16 inch 5 lug 4 1/2 BC aluminum wheels from a 4x4 Ranger or Explorer late 90's early 2000"s years then put 225 75R 16 tires load range F or G truck tires( NO GYEAR) never had any problems --- just keep an eye on inflation pressure and towing speeds you will be OK

I put the new Hercules H901 on my ATC. Made a huge difference in how the trailer pulls. They are load range F and have a speed rating of 75MPH.
The look like a Tractor Trailer Steer Tire. I replaced the cheap Westlakes that came on the trailer. The Hercules weighed 22lbs more for the same size tire. Sidewall was 2x as thick as well. So far around 1500miles on them. Best looking trailer tire I have seen. Here is a link> https://www.herculestire.com/tire-de...cules/H-901-ST Last edited by NSSGTO; 03-24-2019 at 09:44 PM. |

![]() Quote:
"Based on industry standards, if tires with the ST designation are used at speeds between 66 and 75 mph, it is necessary to increase cold inflation pressures by 10 psi above the recommended pressure for the load. Do not exceed the maximum pressure for the wheel. If the max pressure for the wheel prohibits the increase of air pressure, then the maximum speed must be restricted to 65 mph." Always overinflate on days when the temperature of the road is very hot. |

Bob, it would be money well spent to upgrade to a 16in. tire. There are so many more options and worth the peace of mind.
