We were not "allowed", but after axles, etc, my station wagon was spitting pinions out the front on the starting line. I put the '57 Pontiac under mine to keep it together. More unsprung weight, and no performance gains at all. Just stopped greasing down the starting lines, and going home, car broken, and me broke. LOL
Not proud of doing it, but that was a stupid rule. I knew guys with 9" Fords under theirs, I had no problems with that either.
The starting line guys probably appreciated fewer grease downs, and may have not cared why.
