For what its worth the STD engine in the 1983 Z-28 was the LG4 150 HP-- over 67000 sold-----the LU5 175 HP was an Optional Engine in the Z-28 --over 20000 sold---the L69 190HP was also an Optional Engine in the Z-28 they sold over 3200 vehicles-- do not know what NHRA has in THEIR classification guide but that's what GM said they did---FED 387

The classification guide lists the flat top motor as 200 hp from factory with a factor of 261 for the manual and 263 for auto. It lists the cross-fire as 165 hp with a factor a 230. The dish motor is listed as 150 hp. Wasn't the H O motor a stick only? I ran mine as an automatic and later a stick, but I was thinking they only came factory with the 5 speed.

MJ, it's a mistake, just like listing that non-z28's and iroc's had Tune-port injection in them..i was on the line at a Chevy dealer.....GM NEVER made them.....your guess is is good as mine. PS still lovin my Derby City ft cover...Regards, jeff

The tech guys would probably use the berlinetta shipping wt if you have a Z28. Not everything is in the book guys, everyone knows they made Z28's in 83 , there just isn't a separate shipping wt/ factor for it.

1983 Camaro Shipping weights per GM
Base Camaro Coupe V-8---3035 Berlinetta V-8--3056 Z-28 LG4 engine 3061 either manual or auto trans avail add 101 pounds for auto trans Z-28 LU5 engine 3107 AUTO TRANS ONLY Z-28 L69 engine 3107 MANUAL TRANS ONLY In addition Berlinettas had different grilles/front fascia/interiors /dash gauges etc. than Z-28----All Z--28 had front spoiler/rear trunk spoiler/ground effects rocker mouldings Not sure what/how NHRA is looking at these cars but a base/berlinetta looks entirely different than a Z-28 parked side by side |

Thanks for the reply Dave, don’t understand how you could use Berlinnetta specs for a car running ground effects ?? Don’t understand how you can race a car that is not in the books, that I know was made....??
