Having a problem with a new set of springs PAC 1409X being installed on my 882 heads. I will need either locators or a different retainer to get the correct installed height and 200 lb seat pressure.
Problem is I cant find anyone that makes either a spring locator with a .760” inside diameter and 1.25” outside diameter with an .840” valve spring inside diameter. Does anyone make something like this or is there another solution we are missing? Thanks Rich |

plus or minus machined locks from crane or comp cams can help... if u use plus .050'' locks you have to watch the retainer to underside of rocker. roller rockers there should be sufficient clearance there....what is the required installed height and what r u getting presently?

We got 1.90” with the retainer and 140 lbs with no shim. We can shim it up to 180 but not much material left to locate the springs then

a retainer providing less installed height and/or -.050'' locks should get you down to 1.800''. leave the bottom alone to help keep the spring located properly.

Rich,
Just want to add that it would be a good idea to get the same brand keepers as your retainers. I have seen a bunch of cases lately where locks from one manufacturer do not properly fit another's retainer etc. And this is not no-name stuff. You would think that any 7 degree lock should fit any 7 degree retainer but it is not the case.

Sometimes machining a new part is necessary to get the locator to fit the head. For some of us its not a Chevrolet world.
