Just a guess, but could pre-race tech be taking place during the times that registration is open on Tue, Wed & Thu? Including tech in the lanes, which I have seen at various events.

Just being curious. Was there tech at the Norwalk nationals? Is it tech as we have always known or did you just fill out your tech card and turn it in at registration? Inquiring minds want to know.

SS at Norwalk: Filled out Tech card and went thru registration. As we were lined up for Q1, several Tech officials started at the head of the lanes and checked every entry. One guy checked helmets, belts and suits while another looked under hoods.

They spot checked things at the Gatornationals. They were sealing carbs in the lanes on Q1 Then they checked my gloves at the scale after class round 1. No pre race tech as we had for years.

There isn't any tech at National events.

So there is kind of a tech at national events, just not a pre-race tech as thorough as in the past. A quota of 180 cars in both Stock and S/S makes a "mini tech" interesting when qualifying only allows 128 to race.

And will only supercharged cars go to tear down if there is a tear down?

Indy will as always be a special animal. My guess is a unique or uncommon Tech check will happen that has not occurred in a while. All racers should be on your toes.

"kind of tech"...I've attended a few national events this year. From my perspective, the new tech is equivalent if not better than the old tech. From someone who was skeptical when the change was announced, I'm happy with the new process! Everything that was checked before is still checked now!

Believe it or not, there was a tech official carrying a helmet that they confiscated in the staging lanes at Bristol!
