Guessing you have California tags? Not only in CA, out of state tagged rigs get stopped for things that in-state rigs get by with. Texas as well.

Ed. I've been thru a lot of the US states with this rig over the years, west to east and back again. I suppose you would call me 'just lucky' ? No worries.

I pull a 34 ft. Tag trailer. California cops are really good at catching speeders. Once they stop you, they can check everything, even the amount of fuel on board.

My advice is don't go over the speed limit (it's 55) and all will be fine. Give yourself plenty of time in Cali.

I understand they also don't want older diesels that don't use DEF. Last time out there, I decided I wasn't going back.

I think the DOT on fuel is 1000 lbs or about 2 drums.

That is correct and fuel must be in DOT approved containers. Some of the plastic jugs are not and if the officer is not a pleasant person he will check them. Battery charged for break away? Chains to long and dragging ground or twisted several times to take up slack is a violation.

Pulling a trailer in CA you only get 2 right lanes. I got a ticket on this one when there were 2 lanes and it went to 3 lanes and I passed a group of cars on the far left lane.

Thank you, all who responded. We were armed with a motorsports permit and ran the right lane at 57 mph without issue.

We also played golf in Arizona so we would do all CA driving after business hours.
