A $5,000 fee? They should pay the track that much since just to hold it 'cause without grade points folks can't enter those fine NHRA National Events!

In Div 5, the Midwest Class Racers organization partners with NHRA and the host track to run a Stock/Super Stock combo race on Saturday at select National Opens. This season, we did it with the Earlville, Iowa and Kearney, Nebraska National Opens.

So, we have two races in one weekend...both with vastly increased purse money over a traditional National Open. The payout this last weekend at Kearney was $2,000 win, $1,000 r/u, $500 semis, etc. -Al

Cool Re: what is an NHRA National Open?

These races need to be hosted, supported, and encouraged. Many are held in conjunction with other races in order to make them feasible. The extra grade points sure help,as well. Stock and Super Stock are combined. Wait until you race an 8.25 SS/GT car with your 12.20 stocker. Dial hard and don't lift,or you're through!

At the Indy Open this weekend you can pay extra $50. to make runs on Friday, and pay extra to run a bracket race on Saturday so you can make a lot of runs if you like.

I'm sure some of that fee pays for NHRA Division Tech personel and the personel to run the event.

Unhappy Re: what is an NHRA National Open?

I would more likely attend a D7 National Open, if their entry fees were more like D5's! Sorry, but I can't justify paying divisional event entry fees, for a non-points earning national open race. I sure hope Tucson Dragway gets a divisional event next year, because that track has been good to me.

Go figure, in D5 their opens charged $80-$100 bucks...D7? $165.00!!!! . My racing budget may be good, but if I'm going to spend divisional event entry fee money, I expect to get more than just a grade point for my traveling dollars!

My not so humble opinion....
