Smile So I was thinking.....

With all the hype with Justin and the Crowmod, I've watched and appreciate what his passions are, here's what I'm thinkin:

Based on Indy
Wann, Bourdreau, Sherman, Cummings, Hill, Gove, Burton, Teuton, Glasbrener,
Cash days at Vegas $ody in? 250 buy in, but in in B/SA. Nhra would have to allow no AHFS.
A couple more Loge, Little, 1 or 2 of Bridgewaters, Biondo, DeFrank, not sure but would be worth watching based on what I've seen! 😜🏁.

Well anybody

Scott,
I should know better by now, not to get involved in another Big Chief post, but I will. We would all like to see more interest in S/SS racing. Personally, I believe drag racing is a hobby for (I`m guessing) 80-90% of the participants. I was 16 in 1974, read Car Craft, SSDI, Popular Hot Rodding and Hot Rod every month. I was in the minority that thought an automobile was more than just transportation. I think S/SS racing is mostly a generational thing, and when we are gone, who will be interested? Young people want new stuff. My interest was in Camaros and Chevelles, not 55-57 Chevys. Fast forward 40 years. Its tuners, that kids drive and hot rod. They use social media to promote what they do. The grandstands were packed at Atco on a youtube video I watched about a 7second Turbo Civic. The crowd was going wild. I don`t know if social media will help promote 50-60 year old race cars. It`s nostalgia racing that a select few will spend money on for the latest technology. Its a niche market.
I came back to edit my post, because I never really made a point. I went to NHRA website to check Sat. Stock schedule for Indy. There was no run sched. for any sportsman racer. Sportsman final on Monday was the only listing I saw for the entire event. (correct me if I'm wrong). The sanctioning body of the sport... can`t make it up. They know, as well as we do, we are going pay our own way. A former World Champ stock racer told me, that back in the day, there was plenty of free oil, gaskets etc. from the manufacturers. I read on here where people aren't getting paid contingency, for winning events! Cash days at Vegas might generate interest. Its just too bad the racer has to go in his pocket to put up the prize money, but who else is interested?
Thanks, Mike

Regardless of what type of car younger people prefer, most could never afford even a rough version 67-71 Camaro, Chevelle,Mustang,Challenger, etc much less a legal stocker version.

I agree, generations like different cars.

A dad in his mid 50's has a 30 year old son. Dad has an E-body bracket car so son got nice easy project e-body, it has never been driven. Son now races a 10 second Honda.

I don't want to see a shoebox chevy run. Bring on the big blocks!

Guess I'm lucky in my old age I like them all, from Model Ts to the new muscle cars from the big three. I would love to see a race like Scott described with B/S added. You could have a 32 car quality field. That said the casual fan that comes through the gate will not recognize a single name. Racing a sportsman car is done for love and little else.
My $.02.

Its sounds like the old "Top Stock" it would be "Way Cool", but then as now I would just be in the way. But man it would be fun to part of it!

If it was advertised and word out in social media, the turn out would be much greater. For sure keep the phrase cash days as it is a phrase people will relate to and come to see.
Don't know how it would fit in the normal coarse of the day though.

Larry, the only way you would be in the way is as "danged hard or impossible to get thru to the next round". It would be great to see but I'm not sure that the casual fan would get it.

I'm going to reply to this with the utmost respect for the car owners and drivers on this site but you all talk about the younger generation so I figured I'd chime in. I'm a 32 yr old that runs a 68 Camaro in SS/JA and finishing a 69 camaro to run in AA/SA (I own both cars 100%). My father, brother and I have slaved hours to get the cars to where they are and yes we gather around the TV on occasion to watch street outlaws and hell even Gas Monkey, because after all - aren't we all car guys? Yes the number of 30 somethings in S/SS are not high but what are the elder guys doing to bring the younger crowd in? I read the negative posts about the crowmod, why?? Did he take someones deserved spot ? When the top dawgs of stock and super stock give it up in 5-10 yrs, what's next? Who is coming up behind them? Does NHRA see that? Running a class car of any merit takes a tremendous amount of money now a days due to so many rule changes that have been petitioned through the years by the very drivers and owners that are now saying the younger generation can't afford to run in class or simply choose to throw a bracket car together and run big money bracket races , to actually make a profit on running a drag car. like I said, I respect every owner / driver that straps themselves into a class car and this post was simply to chime in from "the younger generation"
