I believe that Larson now is running a 302.

As of August 2016 at the St. Louis divisional race, the car had a 302 and a 4 speed in place. The first run it made really woke the race announcers up since they were unaware of the engine/class change.

Just got a call from Jack Larsen. He is on the road trucking, and wanted me to set this thread straight. His car has never run a 4 speed.Has the same 3 speed tranny that he ran behind the 6 cylinder. His friend Bruce Kastle built the 302 over the winter that is now in the car with the 3 speed.Brother Wayne will be up from La. later this month to drive the car at the 2 Earlville races.Hope this info is helpful.

I stand corrected guys! Another rookie error, sorry about that Jack and others.
Man, that car shifts hard into second gear for using a three speed trans. Very impressive runs too!

Lyn, All,
3 speeds are still not allowed to be replaced with a 4 speed manual.
However, 2 speed PG's ARE allowed a 3 speed automatic.
It seems that the automatic industry has more smooth talking lobbyists behind them.
