You only get one Duane. He gave you the bug...the fever...RACE CARS! Although you may not see eye to eye, I would bet that you are, if not the most important thing in his life...in the top two! I know how you felt with that Win a few years back at MIR. I bet that was nothing compared to how proud he was of you. You only get one BIGGEST FAN IN THE WORLD....THAT'S HIM

Duane, your thread really got my attention. I went through this deal with my son. Didn't talk to him for four years and didn't see my grandkids during that time either. Fortunately, they came up here over the holidays and we got hooked back up again. And we both felt much better after that. Especially, when the thing I was pissed about was so petty. I also worried that something bad would happen while we were on the outs.
I like your dad very much. When we came back racing and he was the Chief IHRA tech inspector, he made it fun. He was there to help the racers rather than to bust their chops. I hope his recovery is quicker than everybody is anticipating.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Duane. My prayers for a speedy recovery.
I went through an "estrangement" with my Dad many years ago, time enough that the reasons for it faded from my memory long before we came to terms with it. Although I don't think he ever really changed, I finally decided that he was the only father I was ever going to have, and all the negativism between us wasn't what I wanted. I don't think we ever became close, but at least he was back in my life and we were able to share some "quality" time together. He's at peace now and I don't have to wonder if I did the right thing. You'll thank yourself for reaching out to your Dad. Lew

my father was my best friend. the only time he came to the races he gets a speeding ticket getting there. won a Divison race and get home to a hand made banner on the garage door "welcome home champions" being young and even older I thought telling him I loved him was not a manly thing to do. I never did, now hes gone....he knew though. I live with now with painfully regretting that I never told him...best wishes duane & your father.
