Had the same thing happen to me last week, The priming tool was .070 smaller in diameter than a stock distributor where it fits into the galley, oil on left side only.

Not sure what type of priming tool you have. It needs to look like a distributor at the bottom (where it engages the oil pump). I use an old distributor with upper portion cut-off. If yours does not look like a distributor at the bottom, it will not oil both sides of the motor.
