Default Qualifying with no AHFS

Interested in fellow racers opinions on this topic .... Recently I asked Kent Hanley to voice my idea to NHRA on having stock and super stock qualify at all events ( National and Divisional ) with no AHFS .... Same way comp qualifies with no CIC ..it would count for eliminations only.... Needless to say it was not accepted based on the statistical value of Q data needed to even up the combos
My thinking was in a performance based category wouldn't it be great to go to races....ALL RACES ..not just Opens .. And be able to run your car all out ... Maybe even go for the #1 spot if you can ....be a lot of fun !!!!! Also fun to watch !!!.. Let's face it .. in all the years the AHFS has been in effect we are no closer to evening up the combos / cars then when it was originally implemented .... I ran my 305 for 12 years and never got it hit for HP because I manipulated the car to avoid the AHFS like most of us do ... I think it's time for change .. Let's stop racing with one hand tied behind our backs after spending big money to build these cars

What you say ???????????

I would say at this Point we have No option !
Just received a update of what had to take place at Phoenix in the Semis between two fast cars that work hard to be fast and this was the end result .. Pretty frustrating to say the least Great job NHRA ... you guys are the best !!
Might be time to go Outlaw racing.

Good idea .. You mean no more break light racing during qualifying ? ..LOL.. I'm all for it .. And I like someone else's idea of running time trials off the indexes .. It would certainly put a little life in our practice sessions ... For us, and anybody that would happen to be spectating or helping ,,,

Joe, your idea is great but, Just think of the problem of the guys who realize how much et people have been holding in their classes.
I think make #1 qualifier a prize again, make going fast the goal again.
In All a great idea.
Heads up idea also good.

I love your idea Joe.
It is time for a change.
Also, it would be great during qualifying to use the index and handicap accordingly, like it would be an actual race.

Not sure I understand, Joe.
You're saying people would want to run 1.50 under in qualifying and time trials, then dial .90 under for eliminations?

Mark - maybe not 1.50 under and the .90 for elims...... but damn..... it would be nice to just be able to stop worrying about it all the time.

I don't see what difference it would make to change.... I agree with Joe - everyone with a fast car is running detuned... heavy... lifting - it really has become a joke. So has the. Infighting and commiserating between people with similar combos.

And - yeah - if they won't make that kind of a broad change then hell yeah - make it NO AHFS for heads up runs - and do ya one better - no AHFS in heads up even when it's 2 racers with different combos.

I think that would pump some life into these classes which have become increasingly boring.

People were lifting and sandbagging long before the AHFS came along.
