Ed, like Rich said, they are Aluminum.
Being they are Aluminum, they also help in the dampening of frequencies htroughout the RPM range. They work the best on high RPM engines such as 4 and 6 cylinder engines.

Nevertheless, although a great product, the company has its issues with delivery and also their customer service is not the best. Therefore the reason why I recommend procuring the flexplate from Coan since most of the times he has them in stock.
