The 1st Winter Nationals was held in Daytona Beach in 1960. It was a joint venue between NHRA and NASCAR. This is not to be confused with the 1st all NHRA Winternationals held in Pomona in 1961. NASCAR dabbled in drag racing thru 1966.

I used to tell Tim Whittington that racing a Chevy was the only antidote for being Cajun. I suppose this skeleton in the closet explains why you Houma guys seemed like exceptions. The Bowtie has powers to heal even when you step over to the dark side.

In 1965 when Chrysler was boycotting Nascar both Petty and Pearson were sent drag racing. Petty crashed at Dallas Ga and hit a young man standing by the fence. I believe that the kid was about 9 or 10 years old. Petty buried the car behind the shop and built a new car he raced until the boycott was lifted later in the year.
