To add to what Joe said:
The operational policies of NHRA were set up way before any of the economy crunches hit or their growth demanded more people. One of the problems is the lopsided salaries some of the execs and past execs get. Most of the board is way over paid. Someone said there are a couple of double dippers, too. If you have ever seen any of their tax returns you could understand they are set up on Greed.

Companies are better off sending some product and a hoodie to the guys on Street Outlaws. Way better exposure.

It always seems with large organizations both public and private the more cash coming in, the more the people running the show help themselves to the goodies. There are executives here in Wayne County, (Detroit) that gave themselves a sweetheart deal where they get more money in retirement pension than they received in salary when they worked. This type of nonsense is what gets organizations in trouble. So what do they do, they charge more in taxes or for the products they sell. Wayne County at the moment is in big financial trouble.

That is the nature of 501c's. More,More,More. So they can spend it all !!. The best way to spend it is on their own board and administrators. Haven't you seen the list going around of what part of the Dollar you give gets to the needy. Most of those are top heavy with large salaries. That is just like a racing organization we know a little about.

now Adger, that is a pretty broad brush. I have served with and continue to serve for some local charities that are staffed mainly with volunteers including the board members. I agree there are some out there that serve themselves more than the community. do the research before donating. Always look at the overhead costs when considering a contibution. the real issue is that NHRA has grown into a business that is way too top heavy and only is able to stay afloat because of the breaks they get as a non-profit. i wish they would flush the upper management and start over. the only problem is that they would probably call themselves a church, take more tax breaks and give compton another raise!

I just had to chime in here. My hat is off to the ATI crew for pulling out of NHRA.I got sick of NHRA'S greed a long time ago.I hope this is a new trend to cut NHRA out of the loop and have the manufacturers pay the winners
runner up ,class, etc.on their own. Also I feel it is the right thing to do to
run a manufacturers decal if he is paying me prize money.(remember they don't have to ) Shop-Rite isn't paying me class money just because I buy groceries there.I have and always will promote the people who help me
and pay me.As one racer stated on this thread , fans do come up and ask what and why you are using a certain product, engine , converter, etc.One last thing , I hope the stock-super stock races get bigger and stronger
run buy the racers -for the racers. Maybe the manufacturers will stop and take notice. As soon as i can afford it again that's where you will find my
big black Chevy wagon. Al jr.

Sounds like someone advocating cutting the payouts and just give trophies. Wally would be so proud..
