For a cleveland to make 600 in stock eliminator trim it needs to make 1.70 hp per cubic inch. A real good 396/375hp BBC makes about 1.62 hp per/ci and that is the same head basically. I don't see it but then again I was told by a few people that they had a 305/263 that made 460. The race track doesn't lie, dyno's can be fooled or can be very liberal.

This is true, and why it needs a good car.....but some things to ponder.......you can not get the "tech" on an .842 lifter like you can on an .875 nor can you get the shaft diameter as large as you can on the ford which means the valvetrain will not function as good at extreme speeds. The ford has almost a point more compression and a much better combustion chamber to work with. The rotating weight on the ford is almost 200 grams lighter. The intake manifold on both engines is worthless, let me rephrase that...the collectors think they are made from solid gold but to create horsepower, they leave a lot to be desired. the lifter angles, locations and spread are clearly better on the chevy, but.....

The question I have are those really good 396/375's running the .875 program? It has been developed over the years to function almost perfectly at 9000+ for 4 hrs at a time

Latest CarCraft shows Calvert's engine on the dyno at 963hp.

Any car mag could say 400hp or 1500hp and both would be just as believable....

Not bashing mags..oh wait, yes I am, but adding the cam that is their number one advertiser won't "add 150hp" with no other changes.

Maybe put a stock cam in a pro stock, dyno it, then put the pro stock cam back in...but other than that they're full of poo.
