Labor Day 1974 was september 2nd.
Publication would obviously be in the next weeks after that. If you find pics post them here or over in the nostalgia forum. Gail drove a 56 4door called "MissFit". She could row a 4 speed with the best of 'em. Jake also built a 6 cylinder Nova that i think ran H/MP or maybe as a gasser. Long time ago. Last edited by Charlie A; 10-18-2014 at 10:32 AM. |

I saw most of the event as a spectator. Think they dealt with rain at least a couple
of days...including Labor Day. I didn't come back for Tuesday as I was heading home. Remember that one of the Time Trial/Qualifying days was called due to rain, and I believe back then, you had to remove ALL your stuff and go to your hotel/motel or whatever....and stay there. Also at the end of every race day... Then you'd hustle back EARLY in the morning to get a good pit spot...do I recall that correctly??? On that rain-out day, remember hanging out at the DQ on Rte 136 in Clermont. LOTS of race cars to check out...on you guessed it...OPEN trailers...and also ramp trucks too. Fun time despite the rainy day...Stayed at the Lions Club campground...another Nationals icon...Are BOTH still around?? While most of the event was the usual warm and muggy...remember that Labor Day came up cold and dreary...with at least a 20-degree shift in temperature... probably more. Might have rained overnight....and do remember them drying the track and people with rain gear and blankets.... |

I wished I had started this hunt while Jake was still alive. He would have loved it. I remember going to his house on weekends. If there was a race on he was watching it like some people watch football.
Thanks

Might have a photo of Dwight's car...but it would be a pit shot...I didn't have a
telephoto camera at that time..Probably take some time to find though.... |

Does everyone know who that is in the picture Charlie posted?
Scooter Brothers from Comp Cams. Hope and pray Dwight gets well. We all had a lot of what we thought were good times back in those days. Hardrock |
