Re: Why did 3 tenths come off the index
You forgot the other part of the puzzle ; increasing the automatic hp. trigger to 1.20 under. This gave the same cars ( read 2008 and up cars ) a .500 of a second cushion.

Re: Why did 3 tenths come off the index
Larry, The 2010 SRAC committee was given a Stock /SS proposal from Bruce B. He, Travis and a couple others had worked very hard to revamp AHFS. Along with the decrease of the indexes, it included the automatic hit at 1.0 sec under. Not all, but a few of the SRAC committee members lobbied for the 1.20 to protect the "older" soft Super Stock combos. They went as far as having some of the racers call, whine, and cry to their Division Representatives to plead their case. Obviously they were once again self serving and very short sited. It's been all down hill since then. The funny thing is most of the persons involved were Super Stock Racers. And they got their 1.20 auto hit passed. I wonder how they'd be feeling if all these "new cars" were SS only! The end result is the Racers got what they asked for! And it really was a slap in Bruce's face. And now we bitch? As Paul Harvey would say, " Now you know the rest of the story."

Re: Why did 3 tenths come off the index
The tree tenths were removed to accommodate the new cars. The SRAC has very little power to influence any decisions made by nhra. Just window dressing to make it look like nhra gives a hoot. Bruce and the SRAC guys mean well but in the end corporate rules.
Tom Compton stood up at a meeting at Indy in 2011 and said he knew that nhra had not been treating the Sportsman racers very well - but that was all going to change. Apparently for the worse as nhra continues to play with the indexes and qualifying for the new cars; to the detriment of the older cars. Also, I have a question for Mr. Compton. Why has nhra been treating the Sportsman racers badly and why do they continue to do it? And it's not the pat answer that we lay down and take it. nhra has been rocked several times recently and yet they arrogantly motor along towards oblivion. Why for they do that?

Re: Why did 3 tenths come off the index
So, what happens to those combos that have been factored to the point of not being able to run with the other cars in their classes? Using the AHFS is not an option since they listen poorly.

Re: Why did 3 tenths come off the index
why don't they give the 3 tenths back and make the hit number at 1.50 under?

Re: Why did 3 tenths come off the index
My suggestions are
---to leave the indexes and the 1.20 automatic hit same but have the afhs review 4 times a year... Or ---give the 3 tenths back with the current afhs and adjust the trigger points for reviews (1.50 automatic hit and 1.30 trigger for review)... I have zero dogs in the new car vs old car fight (my car is slow in a slow class)but speeding up the afhs will definitely help level the playing field.... The afhs does work.. Just slow..
