Glad to hear from you Jeremy. I knew the history of the "Fish Scale", but I'm glad you brought it to light here. There is little mention of some big names in Oldsmobile Stock/Super Stock in this thread. Your Dad Jim, Ron Garey, John Troxell (who I just saw Wednesday), Woodland and Andresen, Paul Mayo, Ron McHugh (and his brother Kevin), F.J.Smith, Pete Kost, just to name a few. Yes, it was common for Dale Smith to provide parts and unauthorized factory assistance to some of the racers. I have some handwritten notes from Dale Smith that were sent to the drivers of my "Anderson Olds" '69 W-31. Olds had some paperwork that some of the more prominent racers compiled, and those handouts have become quite collectible today. The paperwork included part numbers, tuning suggestions, suspension settings, etc. I am lucky enough to have two of them.
As for my favorite? Of course in Stock Eliminator that would have to be my '69 W-31 pictured in my avatar! I do have a biased opinion on that pick! Super Stock? Probably John Troxell's SS/OA '72....not the most famous by a long shot, but MY favorite. I'd say that the Waibel/Ingersoll '70-'72 probably won the most. I heard you found your Dad's old W-31 and were planning a resto. Also, Tweed Vorhees is restoring the old Chesrown/Ron Garey car. I'm hoping both of those racers are restored to their former glory ! Gene Horn's burgundy 66 442 was the Brainbeau car that won C/S at Indy in 1966 with Loyed Woodland driving. Ross Hunsinger now owns the car and is restoring it.

I think that Buddy Ingersooll's 72 Cutlass is the best Super Stock car,but my favorite Olds Super Stock car is Danny Latimore 's big 455 Delta 88,Does anybody have pictures of this car.

Lattimore's team cars and engines were discussed in SS&DI January 1980.

There have been many great Oldsmobiles from the all over the country. Since I am from the Northwest, the Kost Brothers (Pete and Bill) have a soft spot for me. I have known them since the 70's and have seen many great running Oldsmobiles form them. I know Pete even had one of the Smothers Brothers cars for awhile. My favorite is the '72 Rainier Beer car. I don't have any pictures of it, but remember seeing at the local tracks all the time. We lost Bill a few years ago, but Pete is still out there doing what he loves at 81 years of age. The car Pete drives at this time is a 1977 Cutlass w/ a 403 in it. Last seen in J/SA

If you include Stockers, how come nobody mentioned Buck Jednick's Omega? During the two years NHRA initiated the index system with no breakout, he was deadly.
