Never been told that. We've had ice and towels on the intake right up until it was started to go to the water.

Quite sure that they are icing in the lanes at Indy...

on my past experience, since I am the ice man on the car. @ Baytown (national event) was told no ice past the stripe in the back of the staging lanes (beginning). @ No Problem (divisional) was told no ice past the stripe leaving the staging lanes - the same stripe after crossing that dial-ins cannot be changed.

It's as clear as can be to me. The 3rd sentence from the end says all artificial cooling must be removed before leaving staging area. I'd wager you could go out of the rear of staging with no consequences?
SADLY, some of the tech people have their own interpetations of these rules! |

I think the problem is the rule is perfectly clear, it just so happens that some one a long the way have interpreted it completely wrong...

Indy has a yellow line about halfway up....they have an A board posted there and all external cooling must be off before moving forward....I observed chillers etc up to that point
On Wednesday a badge happy official was all over a team whose TIRE was behind that line, but the bumper was over! A short "discussion" was had and the official moved on That double yellow line is a pedestrian crosswalk, middle of stage lanes FYI |

They had a clearly marked point in staging lanes here at Indy saying no ice or cooling beyond here. For anyone familiar with Indy's lanes it was the cross walk lines was the line.
