Not much going on lately. I decided I am going to attend the Holley Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend this weekend...looking forward to it as I have never been to one. Taking the car and will enter it in the Modified Eliminator class at 11.00 or 11.50 index depending on how it performs.

We did not get our quadrajets back yet so I pulled the intake/carb of the '66 Nova and put it on the Camaro. The intake is an aluminum unit supposedly off a 365hp Corvette while the carb is a BG 750 Demon. I'll run it out the back door first qualifying pass then pick the appropriate index. I intend on just relaxing and having fun Thursday thru Saturday...will try to post some pictures of the festivities each evening if I have access to some WiFi.

Been a long slog the past two days with withering heat/humidity on Thursday and rain Friday morning here at the Hot Rod Reunion. I continue to battle this car even with the Holley carb installed. There is a nagging bog that I have not been able to tune out with larger squirters. My partner called this evening before we left the track with an idea that sounds right on track...says the secondary is opening to soon. There are so many adjustments on this Demon carb there ought to be a law against it lol!

My first time at one of these events and I'm really enjoying it so far minus the car problems...I'll be back again next year for sure. Been so wrapped up trying to figure out this car I have not taken many pictures. There are so many immaculate race cars here it makes me want to hide my junk haha! I did snap a couple of this beautiful Corvette in staging tho...

I'll try to post some more sometime Saturday evening.

I'm running Modified Eliminator in D/M (11.50 index) and currently positioned well in 13th spot on a ladder with about 50 cars. My best qualifying pass was a 11.557. I took out a bracket from the trunk that was used to attach the ballast weight before first round late this afternoon, but it was only 23 pounds. The only other weight I could take out of the car would be the passenger seat hehe...hopefully with the carb tweak that won't be necessary tomorrow for second round.

Yeah, I managed to win first round, but it wasnt pretty. My opponent was the #3 qualifier running C/M (11.00 index) and I knew he was going to run his number. I was .019 on the tree on my last qualifying pass and told myself not to throw it away on a redlight...no problem lol. The car launched harder than it had the past two days, but I knew I saw way too much yellow as soon as I left. This was about 6:30 in the evening and we were looking directly at the sun and the tree...I could barely see to stage. To seal the deal when I shifted to second gear the rpm's went sky high like I had pushed in a clutch. I slapped the shifter again quickly, but I knew it was over at that point. As I went across the finish line I glanced at the light on the wall and thought I saw green, but the sun was just glaring and didnt give it a thought. When handed my ticket at the booth I saw the win arrow and shouted to the official "no freakin way!" The C/M car had went red -.113 to my .094 light...the real stab was he had run nearly dead on his index at 11.008. I almost felt like I had cheated him. I guess a win is a win, but geez that was nasty. Anyhow, I'll try to do better in the morning. Off to bed for this old fart...

Factory parts...

I was under the impression that to use Caltrac split mono leafs you needed to use spring sliders since the rear eye is a Mopar style. Did you just use a different bushing?

No - It's designed to work with stock parts. No special bushings needed.

Just got home from the Reunion and I'm completely cooked and beat. I'm hooked tho and I'll be back for more next year.

Ran second round early this morning and lost a squeaker. Disappointed, but not ashamed of my effort...made a good clean pass. It was very fast early on and most runs were double breakouts. I stabbed the brakes hard but not soon enough...

My opponent and I had a good laugh after the run about the peddle fest...at least I lost to another Chevy. His car...

We had a few track mishaps this weekend. A Gasser hit the wall Friday and sheared his front-end off. Another Gasser took a tumble after the finish line today and ended up on it's side. Both drivers were ok, but it was a shame to see such art damaged.

There was also an accident on the return road Friday afternoon involving a RatRod and a young lady on a 4-wheeler. I think she is alright...they took her to the hospital as a precaution.

From my experiences this weekend I tend to think the 4-wheeler was probably more to blame for the incident. They really need to re-think their policies regarding pit vehicles for these events. It was a madhouse every day with golf carts, 4-wheelers, humarounds and kids on bicycles flooding the return road and staging area. One could barely get to staging when called or back to the pits after a run. There appeared to be no speeding involved in the accident, but I question the need for non-race vehicles to be traveling the wrong direction on a return road in the first place...this happened just past the exit from the scales. The pedestrians were just as bad at times...like threading a needle just to get your car to staging or return to your pit space. Hell, a kid almost walked into my trailer as I was leaving the track this evening...luckily I had one eye on the mirror and was able to brake quickly.
