This is the most recent announcement from MRP as posted by Vicki Strell
on team on a mission website. See u in the lanes Posted by: VS (IP Logged) Date: May 04, 2014 11:49AM Brian Nawyn (President of BCCCA) has posted this below on Facebook. [www.facebook.com] Rumours: Interesting hearing all the rumours that are being spread about the Race Track Repairs at Mission Raceway Park. The first rumour is that the track is not going to open this year. This is totally Ridiculous. Another rumour is that the track has bumps up to 2 inches high in the new concrete. This is also incorrect. We have run into a few issues which will now be addressed The concrete in the right lane does have a variance on finish and flatness The spec is 3mil or 1/8 in. We have some spots that do vary from 4mil to 8 mil or 5/32 to 5/16. To fix this problem 8,000 shots were taken to find all the high areas. These spots have been digitally mapped and are being transfered to the race surface to be ground to spec. Upon completion the entire lane will be Shot Blasted. There was a delay of three weeks before the other lane was poured as we did not want a repeat of the issues in the right lane. The left lane was poured and was finished flat. Unfortunately the concrete was finished to soon and some air was trapped in the surface resulting in some Blistering. After thorough testing of the surface by different engineers these areas were mapped out that have the potential to spall and are currently being addressed. Once completed this lane will be ground very lightly and shot blasted so both lanes will be identical. While being delayed we also decided to do some work on the existing concrete. The old concrete that had a very smooth finish has recently been shot blasted. The concrete from the 60ft mark to the concrete that was just shot blasted is also being ground true and shot blasted. The estimated time line till completion is approximately 4-5 weeks weather dependant. This time line puts us right on the Divisional Race. Within the next couple of Days a Decision will be made Regarding the Divisional Race and the possibility of rescheduling it to a later date. Again we apologize for the delays of the 2014 race season. |

Bummer to hear about the possibility the divisional needs to be rescheduled. I hope there is plenty of notice. The way the weather has been so far there haven't been many dry days starting with S.

If you guys are going to pull the plug on the divisional, you need to do us all a favor and do it now. Making travel arrangements and planning for time off is hard enough without having to reschedule at the last minute. Bite the bullet and get on with rescheduling it now if it doesn't look like it's going to work. My vote would be for late Aug or early Sept after the Malaria swarm has died off.
