Post Re: transfer tanks/towing

Darn, too bad I didn't know because I coulda showed you the 60 gal. w/tool box I have in my dually. It's under my topper, but I switched the sliding window around so I can open it at the front and fill the tank through it. But the window does leak some when it rains. I've also seen some set-ups where the filler cap is built into the side of the topper. It's made by RDS which are sold by Northern Tools. I got mine at a local truck supply store.

It is gravity feed with a shut-off valve. I believe I read somewhere that you are not suppose to keep it open while on the road per DOT regs. Hope someone can clarify. But I open it at the track and it refills the main tank there.

It's great to be able to skip through the higher fuel price states!

Anyone know, for sure, can you do this w/ gas, or only diesel ? I've heard yes's and no's.

If you try this on a gas truck, you'll probably end up with evap. emission problems unless you use a shut off valve and turn it off when the ECM is monitoring evap.

I have a transfer tank in a Gas truck. I put a electric pump out of a Tbi pickup in mine and ran the line to the top of the tank. Through a fitting that I welded into the tank.. And then down to the filler neck with a fitting welded on there as well. If you keep a couple of gallons in the tranfer tank and don't run it dry. It will still hold enough pressure to keep from kicking a CEL for evap. emmissions. Nice part is I can run down the road and flip a switch to fill it up and not have to stop to transfer fuel.

EVAP codes can be fixed.

I could not stand to drive that long without stopping.

Grainger or ?? sells a kit for the filler neck with a valve. Gravity flow no pump needed. Works great for the past 4 years.

Emission lines filling could be an issue at the top of the tank. Has not been on the diesel.
