So shocked to hear this. Had Jim been sick? Saw him at Bowling Green. Always a great guy to talk with! Another of the good ones gone. We will miss you, Jim. Our condolences to his family.

Jim was a good racer, a good friend, and a good man. He will be sorely missed. We'll be keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Jim was a great guy to be around. He was always a class act and such a nice guy. He will truly be missed. I've glad I had the opportunity to be friends with him and help him out with his engines a couple years ago! Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's family!

Jim Smiley was one of the most friendly and helpful guys out there. We had talked with him at Bowling Green and he did not look like he felt bad. But when God needs another racer they got to go. They didn't have a full field yet. I remember once in Memphis he ask me to line him up and when he left the line something broke on his car . The car launched and went on it's top into the other lane. It tore me up so bad inside I could not even line Fred up. Mr. Mawhee had to put Fred in the water. Later Jim came over and was laughing because he said he let his seat belt lose and he fell out of the seat. He didn't know he was up side down. He was a funny guy. We will miss you old Friend.
