Cool Re: I just noticed the entries for the national event

NHRA has a responsibility to check all cars for electronic driving aids!

Everyone here agrees that some racers are just plain better than others. However I know the odds of winning a national event is slim......but winning 4-5 a year or more.... the odds are incredible! I'm sure there are some readers here that can calculate the odds?
My point is just like a random tear down, fuel check, and weigh scale, pull a few over and trace the transbrake or two step, check for delay, keep everyone honest?
Check, verify, level playing field for all.....give piece of mind. Tom Nolan
So what your saying is that the odds are incredible that one of the best bottom bulb racers in the world can win 10% of the national events he is entered at???

Michael, I have no issue with you except to say lighten up a little.

Further, I wasn't aware of any issue between herb and I, having only met/talked to him once years ago at piedmont but apparently, he has issue with some of my online opinions and comments. That's ok, don't bother me, I sleep well at night but if he wants to issue a challenge, YOU need to tell him to speak for himself unless he's your pr guy.

Next, I was not aware that he is no longer piedmont's manager as he still goes by "Piedmontdragwaymanager" on other websites.

Lastly, I have not bad mouthed your event, only stated the facts and the truth about tech as well the former facility that hosted this event. For the record, NO ONE has ever "checked out" my car(s) as it relates to safety or legality or any of my friend's cars at your event or herb's. I have personally witnessed numerous safety issues with car and driver including one of the local hero's there start his car and lunge forward because it did not have a neutral safety switch. Where there is smoke, there is fire and when everyone knows no one is checking cars, the temptation for some not to play fairly might be more than they can withstand.

One north carolina racer told me years ago that they can't tech cars here in nc because if they did, more than half the cars wouldn't be legal to race.

".....best bottom bulb racer(s)...."

We need to get our focus off the tree. Electronics or blinder or plain good of a full tree, one needs to get under .020 which is attainable for most. The resource the full time racers have is at the top end, usually playing with .02 in the bank, and with way more seat time some have perfected taking the stripe or giving it up. That is where the playas cash in

You just got done saying:

but based on your (Herb's) comments above, and questionable unbiased decision making skills as the manager, I'll pass and I'll be sure to let my friends know who were on the fence why I am not going.

Actually, I went trailer-to-trailer on the first day of the event each year, and typically got to 90% or more of the cars. I discussed seat belts, valve stems, throttle return springs, battery hold-downs, ground wires on fuel cells, etc with a number of drivers. I spent time studying and talking with you about your car at the Jim Harrington race. When people brought other issues to my attention, they were investigated. I cannot speak for events run by other promoters.

That's enough hijacking of this thread. Any more off-topic discussion can take place under the proper existing threads, under a new thread if need be, or via private message.

Michael, you must have me and my car(s) confused with someone else as I have never spoken to you face to face until your 2011 thanksgiving weekend event at cpd but you may have spent time "studying" my car(s) as many do, impressed by it's performance and perfection.

Don, you deserve our respect for your hard work and I do think that NHRA should be pro-active in being serious about electronic aids(after all we can send satellites around the globe that can read your cereal box on your breakfast table, how hard would it be to make a light censor). In your data do you take take in all time trial lights also? After talking to many top racers, one thing they all told me is push the tree during time trials and don't red light during competition if you want to be successful. NHRA should be vigilant, look what happened with the Matty Box in Bracket racing a few years ago but I don't think that Super Stock would be a problem... Ah yes, there's that reaction push switch that is sold.lol Claude Ruel p.s. Micheal you're living it so don't worry about the negative comments, thanks for introducing in my mind that you cut killer lights, not fair to use psychological warfare.lol

Mr. Nolan, perhaps I'm off base here, but when you reference and question the feasibility (read legality) of one that wins 4, 5 or more races a year, I can't help but feel as though your comment is at least somewhat directed towards me. NHRA does do spot electronic checks, and I've been done several times over the years. My car is so simple its not even funny, so it really doesn't take very long.

If you have any interest in obtaining further "piece of mind" when it comes to my dinosaur of a vehicle, feel free to pony up with the funds and have at it. Either you and your friends go to dinner and I lose my sponsors, reputation, means to support my family, etc., or me and my friends go to dinner. I'll be making reservations now...
