Default Jim Collins

Any truth to the rumor that Jim Collins has been relieved of his duties as D-2 Tech Director?

Hopefully they'll replace him by someone more hospitable towards newcomers unlike my first experience.

I have dealt with Mr. Collins since 1999, and never had an un-pleasant experience, He has always been most professional.

With that being said he seems to me to have a very dry sense of humor. It wasn't until probably 2007-2008 that I was able to make Mr. Collins smile, and that was just a hint of a smile. In the years since I have seen a full blown smile on numerous occasions, but still have not seen him laugh.

Mr. Collins is serious about his job, and racer safety. IMO

Heard the rumor and the NHRA Racer website had this posted which is essentially for D2 tech questions call Bruce. Know they had lots of timing issues at the D2 ET Finals in Atlanta but no idea if there is a correlation.

Question Re: Jim Collins

What do timing issues have to do with the Div. tech director?

Nada, I said no correlation. I can imagine; however, that there was probably a lot of stress and frustration on everyone's part at Atlanta and that's the best time for regrettable action by someone. Too bad, I never have had any issue with Jim or the whole tech staff, they have always done a great job in my book.

Maybe now I'll be able to run at the 2014 US Nationals.

He handled my situation extremely poorly, and was very unprofessional and rude. The tech guy that was his "sidekick" ,for the 3 days of tormenting me, even apologized to me for way in which it was handled.

That said, I hate to see anyone lose their job (if the rumor is true)

I like Jim. Yes, he has a poker face. But he has always been fair in my book. I have seen many times he make a call based on the rule book only to be overturned by Cal. I have even seen this happen with the car still in line! I guess someone had cal. on speed dial. If he is relieved I wish him the best. But the way it has been going NHRA would probably consider someone with WAY less experience in sportsman classes. I have seen Jim smile and laugh, especially with Flash around..

I agree completely with Bill. Jim is all business at the track, the way it should be. People who say he is grumpy just don't know him! One of the fairest guys in the tech department! Oh and he is good man to boot! Jim
