JMantle No disrespect but I don't agree with the AHFS at all!!! With half my brain tied behind my back I could do a better job with HP factors than that. I'm glad us guys that know what we are doing have spent a little money and have worked hard for years now have a place where we can let it hang without the fear of getting hp. And lets face it. Air like they had at the dutch last year can ruin a combo that has a factor already close. I don't think there are many combos out there that couldn't run at least 1.20 under those type of conditions. Barry

I agree the AHFS is far from perfect but that's all we have. One good thing that could come out of this is it will expose some of the 1000 footers who just can't resist.

No, we don't. We don't need any sort of human factor to introduce error or bias. Especially not the way NHRA is run and personnel selected thse days.

We just need a properly designed and well thought out system, one pound weight breaks in the upper classes, and enough rewards for performance to make it work.

Exactly - we run ours all out as well (witness another AHFS HP increase recently)

It amazes me how many old car owners worry about 1.20 under with there cars since the only under factored cars are the new ones - LMAO

We cannot go 1.20 under in BB - close but only in very good air

I am not knocking your statement. I know it always looks easier from a different class, but I think it will offer an opportunity for those that really have their cars figured out to show it.
A couple of years ago at Indy, I heard the same thing about the A/SA cars entered. Then Barton uncorked a killer run and showed just what was possible. He also showed that he had a superior car. I think it is much cooler to see cars really pushing it to see who is really quicker in similar cars. Some of the Opens that experience killer conditions have an opportunity to really show the other cars in their class where they stand. I am sure there are plenty of cars out there that will take advantage of it and they aren't all CJs, DPs COPOs or 350 dish piston Chevy Trucks!
I think it will be cool.
I think there will be some bruised egos from the guys that now understand their car is. .2-.3 tenths slower then some others with the same combo. Me, I am used to it so I can take it! LOL.

Exclamation Re: National Opens and AHFS

leave it to NHRA to hang thier hat on the Automatic Help For Slugs as the only way to fairly evaulate and adjust horsepower with no human involvement and with computer precision and accuracy > and then SANCTION RACES THAT IGNORE THIS MUCH VAUNTED SYSTEM TO FIX ALL OUR HORSEPOWER WOES.

i am sure the AHFS cannot and will not ever work because we manipulate it... however i KNOW it cant work when you exempt the fastest runs.

You're absolutely correct Alan. When they took the human element out, that was the best decision NHRA made. Unfortunately, they didn't tighten up the guide lines in which to deliver the adjustment.
