The cost? A tear down. And enough white marker to make an R on front and rear window, with a circle around it.
Due to the schedule last year in Las Vegas, we actually tore down before we even ran once. There just wouldn't have been enough time to do it during the runs. So we did the teardown first, and the engine was sealed. Then we went out and got the record with two runs. Another driver behind us in line decided that he could could run for the record too, so he put the R on his car, and tried. He spun and missed on his first run, so it wasn't an issue, but I was wondering when he thought that he would tear down. We haven't run a lot this year, maybe eight or so races, but my engine is still sealed up. David The New Hemi Guy Last edited by NewHemi; 10-23-2012 at 02:21 AM. |

David, you do know that the sealing of an engine is only good for that event. If you were to go out and set a record today, you would still have to tear down.

The way it works is this.
If you set a record the backup has to be within 1% or "faster". If you go slower on the backup but it still is faster than the record. That becomes the record. Here's some examples. Existing record 9.00 First run 8.49 record set, backup is 8.94. New record is 8.94. Existing record 13.35 First run 12.81, backup is 13.25. New record is 13.25 The faster run only counts when the runs are within 1% of each other. The backup is not always the second run, or even the slower run. You can take this to the bank. On this I know. I've set enough records One thing I didn't post was that the first run has to be under the existing record. It can't count as a backup if it was over the record.
