Default Doing it with a 3 speed!......

Hi everybody, like the title says I'm going 10.90 racing with a 3 speed (Turbo 400). I wanted to ask where might you start with timers and shifts if you were to do the same. I haven't used the throttle stop yet. Here is what I have, if it helps. 3500lb car, 540 BBC, 700hp @ flywheel, shfting on time, #1stop air. I haven't had a max et pass yet, so far 10.40's at 128 mph. I think it will go 10.20's???

One of my concerns is once I figure out the relation of shift rpm converted to time how does the TS affect that because now I'm slowing down the time it will take to reach the rpm. Make sense? Or am I simply over thinking that part. Any and all help is appreciated.

I can't say I'm a expert on this but I did run a C-4 my first year and struggled a little bit with consistency. I tried my set up several different ways and could never get it where I was satisfied and switched to a powerglide. I will say the best results I got with the 3 speed were 1-2 shift on the stop and 2-3 shift down track both on time. Good luck hope this helps a little.

It is what it is I realized after I upgraded my 400 that a glide was the trans of choice. Live and learn. If unsuccessful in dialing it in I will source a glide for the future.

Yes I do have a turbo-350 and have been using this trans for a little over 20 years. I have always hand shift the car. I dont have a air shifter or anything like that. Car runs 9 teens in the quarter @ 145mph. with a 434 small block. and also 10.90 at 145mph. I still have all the mph because I have .05 in stage 1 in the timer and its on for 1.70. when its on the stop the car is down to a idle and still in first gear and when it comes off the stop I shift in 2nd gear at 7000rpms and the same for 3rd and it goes threw the traps at 7000rpms. my 60 foot times on the stop are 2.70. hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Rob

Hello
I'm definetly no expert.
But I do run a turbo 400 in a 3200 lb S/ST / HR car.
I personly shift the 1 2 shift on time 1.00 second out. (on the stop)
The 2 3 shift, is shifted at 6800 RPM.
I've only been stop racing for a couple years, so again I'm no expert.

I guess I am the oddball, because I still shift both gears on RPM. On stop at .02 for a little more than 2 seconnds. Car runs high nines.
