Have to remember age of the racers. Many have totally retired from racing or passed away. The lack of younger Class racers due to lower income of their generation or lack of a family habit of racing could be a major part too.
The level of cost and sophistication of Stock and SS is WAY above entry level for todays younger people. Time for a Spec class with any body legal based on wt and cubic inchs like old MOD. That would simplify entry and lower cost at least at first.
Like it or not these are the facts.

Dick, I'm sorry to have to tell you this but you're dreaming again. Believe me, I'd LOVE to see something like the original Super Mod classes again but the kids won't go for it and inexpensive? Please.

Maybe we need a Senior Dragster program - like the Jr Dragster but for us old folks.

I'd love to be going again this year, but it's hard to justify spending a third of my vacation time and a couple grand to do it...

Thumbs up Re: Low Turn out for Indy?

Total entries at 686, Super Stock at 166, and Stock at 134; still 11 days to go before the deadline on Aug. 27.

Billy, Without dreams (thoughts) no changes, no advances are made. Want more people, make it cheap. Guys could learn automotive again if they had a BASIC motor. 350, pg. 3000 lb or more. Only ONE carb choice, one head number,

A Chevy only class?
I have to agree with Billy...even with a Chevy engine and Powerglide, it would not be cheap.

Dick, could I suggest starting a new thread about this? No sense in hijacking Jeffs thread.

I will give you my opinon on the low car count. Before you bash me I don't have a car so save the key board hero stuff for someone that may care. I have driven to indy from North Carolina several times just to watch class runs in stock and superstock and leave, never watching a pro car make a pass. As a matter of fact I spent 5 days at Indy last year with my brother who has a SS/GT car and never watched a nitro pass. The new qualifying to get in on monday and class win means nothing has hurt the car count for Indy in my opinion. Any idiot knows a Gremlin, a 265 chevy, or a pinto wagon will have a hard time racing on monday. The line up for superstock and stock will be GT cars and new sheet metal. My brother has ran SS/GT for years but my heart is in traditional stockers and superstockers. I wish NHRA would wake up, there are still a few of us that enjoyed going to Indy to see each class with cars in it. Don Jackson

I think it's a combination of many things 5 cars for this reason, 8 cars for that reason, etc, etc.
The combo thing, the qualify only thing, the low class win money, the high costs to get there and race, the length of the race. And NHRA's hurry up and wait policies.
