The closer to the starting line you can go on the stop will maximize your mph ability.
Most stops will not close fast enough to not allow you to clear the tree. I have a 2835 lb S/St car that with first # @ .005 will go 147-149. With first # @ .000 I go 151-153. simply a longer run to finish li\ne allows you a few extra rpm. My .02
