Simple answer, C-11, that why we swiched to a different fuel.

I've never known anybody to have a problem passing with C11, C12 is another story. Sure he was using C11?

That's what I heard, might be wrong! And I've never heard about C-12 having issues? VP might wanna start making a fuel that can at least last the weekend at the fuel check, lol!

Never a problem with C11, but you shouldn't take C12 on an empty stomach. It will certainly cause problems at the trailer.

After failing fuel check the first qualifying run and before adding fresh fuel, did he change the fuel filter in the car? Fresh fuel run through a contaminated fuel filter can cause problems when the fuel is checked.

Ok, so here's the story. Back at home, before leaving to head east, I switched from C16 to C12. Like an idiot, I drained the system from the pump side, and not the return side. I let the system stay open for a couple of days, obviously doing the appropriate steps to clean filters. After my father left with the truck, I realized that I didn't drain from return side. I told my father when he arrived in Chicago to drain the return side until C12 came out.
My son made his first pass, and failed fuel check. We flushed, cleaned, and ran fresh 12 through the system. Drove the car back to fuel check, where the official said "I've never seen someone clean up a dirty fuel so well, it's perfect!" My son went on to run his last two qualifiers and first two rounds without a hiccup. He ran his third round, and fuel checked. The official told him that "the fuel is a little flat.". My son came back to the trailer, where he told me that the fuel was a little flat. I said what does that mean? I asked if the official said anything about it being close to failing. My son said no.
He goes out on Sunday morning and wins the fourth round, and fails fuel check. I ask the official about the problem, and he tells me that he said to my son "I told him it was on the edge of failing". I asked my son this, and he said that the official said nothing about it being borderline failing. I asked the official this, and he said, " well I told him it was flat". I asked what the heck is flat? The official says "I have to DQ him for fuel." My son and I go back to the trailer, where my son precedes to take both jugs of C12 back down to the fuel check trailer and have them tested. Both jugs check perfect.
I must have not gotten the fuel filters clean enough! I feel like a complete boob! This was my sons first national, after just turning 18 a few weeks ago. I really feel terrible for him......he did nothing wrong!

We have never ever been told our fuel was on the edge, until this year. Once at Indy, and once at the Chicago div. I did nothing to improve it, and it checked perfect during all other checks. Seems like there is something more going on lately.

I was at Division race, they didn't have Sunoco at the track, so I switched to C12 fuel, well I got caught up with an in line filter causing the fuel to fail. As soon as I took the filter out of the system, car passed with no trouble. Sean, I feel your pain. I was lucky enough to get it done before first round, but missed 2 qualifier runs.

First off, congrats Sean on your son's nice job at his 1st event, It stinks what happened, but worse things certainly do and will happen, so head up!!! Mainly I applaud you for stating the facts, taking some responsibility and moving on.

Good luck racing

If the fuel in the jug tests good but the fuel from the line in the car tests bad, the answer is the filter is contaminating the fuel. Sometimes just running new fuel through the filter will not clean it good enough. Although it might take a little work, it would be better to change the fuel filter, especially after switching types of fuel.
