I think this is simply a case of trying to paint a good picture of a grim situation. The Pro car counts are all they care about. They can get more cars at some of these races if they wanted to increase the quotas. The important number is the front gate. Anybody heard anything about that number?

All that you say is true and I would be very interested in the gate percentages also. It must not be all that good or they would have included that I would think. As you say most people's financial situation is very grim right now. I still would like to see the percentages for Stock/ Super Stock and the Super classes. After all they claim that they have not lost cars in any classes. It would make the story much more complete if they added all the stats to back that up.

"“The teams have maintained their numbers despite the downturn in the economy, which is surprising considering the cost to run those cars and how dependent they are on sponsors, and it speaks volumes for the value of NHRA Drag Racing and their ability and resourcefulness to find ways to pursue their dreams. We’re not only maintaining our numbers but seeing some growth in some classes"

My college Journalism Prof would have called this story "incomplete fluff".

Part of what they don't say is every class is ran at every national event this year where last year each race had one class not represented. Also, I bet the percentage has gone down now that a few more races have been ran. The car counts were low at several of the more recent races.
