Re: Petitioning NHRA to Open SS @ Gainsville
This another example of how drag racing is a fragmented sport. I've never met so many people across this country and now in Europe, that dedicate time, $ and resources towards the specific goal of "making my vehicle faster". You would think that the NHRA and IHRA have the mind set of bottling all this energy and growing it into a perpetual flame of racing. All this excitement about counts, costs and the organizations in general(pro or con) and the lack of leadership leads us right back to square 1 where we start this dance all over again. Everyone has a track that does their best in providing a venue, experience and the desire to come back again and again. There are many grassroots organizations that cater to S/SS racing. Where are the counts to these places and groups. How many times have S/SS racers wished that they were the only cars at a divisional. How they should get respect at a national event and wind up in the mud with only one qualifying pass. NOTHING IS PERFECT! But if you support those things that support us, don't you think they will grow stronger and make others take notice? Think about all it takes to prep a car, get it to the track, jump through hoops to race and pack it up at the end of the day just to do it again. You only do this if you really love something. And if you want to keep doing it, we all have to focus and move as one.Saying that you drag raced "back in a day" is nothing like saying" I race every chance that I get, I love it and support it".
