I cut mine. fit fine. Santhuff says no problem cutting them as first coil is a dead coil as they put it.
Actually, on my 73' firebird the lower a arm has a recess which will accept the santhuff spring as is. You have to place the flat piece of the spring near the two holes that look with water drains towards the engine side of the a arm. Something to look at before you start cutting.
