Hello All.
I had talked with Royce brifly last year about getting a couple index classes started at Maryland International Raceway last year. I got started so late it was hard to make it happen, so here we are in Oct 2011 trying to get something going for the 2012 season. I need some input, Should we run 9.90 S/G, S/R & 10.90 S/ST, HR under current NHRA/IHRA rules. With delay boxes, throttle stops ect... Or should we run a 9.00 index on .400 tree & 10.00 index on a .500 tree with no throttle stops. Allow the use of Trans Brakes & delay boxes but no electronic or air type thortle stops. You all know Royce needs to make his money on this deal to, which we had talked about $30 TT type entry Paid at the gate. Then we would collect our own entry fee and pay out our own purce. Now the question is what should that entry be? $50. $60 or what. Pay out would be based on # of entries Example 16 cars at $50 each is a $800 payout. Winner $400, RU $200, Semi's $100 each. Of course more entry equal higher payouts. These races would be run on Saturdays, say once a month. Could do it twice a month if it really took off, by racing Sundays too. First time run say at 2 PM, second say at 3PM and elimanation at 4 PM. That way each racer would get 2 time runs, and then start elimanations within an hour of the 2nd time run. This way all racers should be able to get in that nights bracket race to. Last but not least should we try and have a overall season points payout? If so how should we go about achiving this? Everybody pay in a certian amount at the beginning of the season ? Say $50 or $75 bucks. Maybe also add $5 bucks to the entry and add this to the season end Championship payout? Again the more interest we can generate, the higher the payout can be, and the bigger the year end Championship payout can be. Can we get a series sponcer? Anybody got any idea's. Cal,
I like your idea but, your best bet down in that area would prob to do the 9.00 / 10.00 index deal. We tried last year to bring the Super Gas Series down to MIR with little success and a very light turnout (I think 18 or 19 cars). We even had some Super Gas Cars that ran the IHRA National Event there that wouldn't run with us cause they would rather bracket race cause it was guarented money put up by Royce. If you were to do the .90 races you need to guarentee the payout from the start...you may lose out at first but, if you and Royce are willing to show the support to the racers then it should take off. With so many individual associations popping up we are starting to saturate the schedules and take away from the cars that would normally travel. Just on the Northeast area you have MASGA, MASCA, TNT Super Series, North East Super Street Series, Leb Valley and Epping have a SC & SG Series it's just harder to draw from up north when you have NHRA & IHRA races already on top of the association deal (People need weekends off). Down in MIR land people want to see fast cars run wide open....that's why the Pro Mods & Pro Stocks and that Friday Night "Shootout" deal are so popular down at MIR. When IHRA did away with P/S & P/M at the Nationals Royce told me he had some very unhappy customers and some not so nice e-mails sent to him by fans who had been coming to MIR for years to see the P/M & P/S and could care less about Nitro Funny Cars & Top Fuel. Trust me I love MIR and would go every weekend to the track but, a 4 1/2 drive is just a little to far for me and I hate the Bay Bridge..lol. If I were you I'd get a list from Royce of all the drivers who were at the Sportsman race in July and find the ones that are closest to MIR (Craig Porter, Dale Koncen, etc) and see what their thoughts are on this series and if they would support it. Of course you will get the ones who say "Yea I'll be there" and you will never see them at a race. Good Luck Cal, hope it works out in whatever you go with! Rob K. 1198 S/G |

Cal, the 9.0 and 10.0 seem interesting but would limit some of your racers. The .90 class's are what everyone's set up for. Don't limit them to IHRA or NHRA rules other then safety and (roadsters or door cars). Keep the entry fee's to $100 and a possible $25 to $50 association fee to run for the season championship but its not mandatory to race. I'll see you around let me know if I can help.
