Through my experience, my best ET's are when it is just noseing over. It does hurt speed however.

This is what testing is for. All data available should be used dyno sheets are helpful, actual full pass data logger recorder, weather, track conditions and time slips is best. Once you feel or hear the car nose over you have peaked, and momentum will carry you a bit further and than that’s it. At that point the mass is just maintaining speed no more acceleration. We are striving for best ET not mph. As far as gear change torque should be at least equal to or higher from when ratio to the next that’s were a dyno sheet helps and gear ratio calculator helps for maximizing acceleration time. Have fun and if something breaks time to go back to the drawing boards.

LOL.. you guys are killing me.. you must be getting free valve springs too.. OR you just aren't checking them.. OR you don't run a Comp Eliminator car, which means you're in the wrong section.. OR your engine builder loves you.. choose your pick.. LMAO!!

Beings Charlie runs comp, he probably does know more then most. That being said, I gear my car where it runs the quickest E T. It happens to be past peak, don't know why, don't care. It is what it is. Also, our springs stay good for about 15 runs. Don't know if that's normal or not. And, I have, and still use springs with 425 seat, and 1050 open pressure. But, have never ran any quicker with those rates and monster pushrods, then we did with 275 seat and 700 open. Go figure.

Probably cause you're nosing over, Randy.. on the Comp cars that I've driven and worked on, we run about 485 to 500 on the seat and get close to 40 runs out of them.. recently that's been on screaming small blocks and 6 cylinder stuff.. shifting at around 9600 to 9800 and going out the back at 10,200 to 10,400 depending on the weather.. everything came off the dyno being run to 10,400 to 10,600.. but that's how Rick Watter's stuff works..
My SG car has about 290 on the seat and never runs more than 7300, on or off the stop.. it's all new now, but the last motor was 4 seasons old and I never changed a spring in those four years.. they were all still at 280 to 285 when we took them off.. |

Thanks Charlie. I don't pretend to know all the answers, and I also realise guys who run minature pro stock, which is what comp is. We run our best shifting at 9,700. Peak is 9,300. It doesn't fall off much, but it starts it's downward trend. Our best pass to date is only .001 under the nhra index, so we are no threat. If I was younger, I would try a little harder then I do now days.Ha! But we have fun trying. We have ran .9 under the ss index, but that's a whole nother ball game. Thanks guy.
