I know that I ended up with the Z/28 because I could get insurance on it when I bought it. The big problem back then is trying to get a company to write insurance for a car that had less the a 10 lbs per ci or HP. Jeff I know you run Mopar, but there was a reason that the big block cars were sparce, "Insurance". I believe that there are now more 396/375 cars around then were ever built by Chevy. Forget about a 427/425, never existed!

What do you mean never existed? I almost bought one in 69. Sport Chev. in Md. had 6 or 8 COPO 427 Camaros on the lot and 5 427 COPO Chevelles. One ZL-1 sitting outside in front of the showroom. Dont I wish I had bought one of those but I was driving a brand new Vette at the time so the insurance couldnt have been any worse than mine. My 68 Z-28 insurance was about the same as the Vette. 350 cubes and 350 HP with a 4 speed in the Vette. I was about 23 years old at that time and single.

Where I grew up, on Long Island, you could get all the big block cars you wanted from Baldwin, but you had to take out a second loan to get insurance if you could find a company that would write you policy. It was the biggest deterent of buying any performance car. BTW, in street racing, Chevy never built any 427s, you always swore that you had a 396/325 hp powered car.

My point is that the cars in stock today aren't being controlled by the insurance companies because they aren't factory built cars for use on the street.

OK.....I get it. I forgot there for a moment....396's only.....LOL. Lots of those in Modified on a local weekend at the track to. I guess I was just lucky. GEICO did me right on insurance. Maybe it was the area? I still wished I had bought a COPO Camaro instead of that Vette.
