My first time to the drag strip was Shuffletown Dragway in 1961. My neighbor race a B/G 40 Ford coupe. He was paralized from his waist down and had all of the controls on the steering column. The "young guys" in the neighborhood went to the track with him to put in fuel, air tires, etc. From that point it is amazing how things have changed.

My first pass down a track was at New England Dragway in July of 1978 with my 1965 Nova SS with a 300 horse 327 and a 4 speed stick. F70 14 rear tires. Ran 14,78 at 100.89 and I thought it was the greatest thing in the world. My first time spectating was at an outlaw track in Warrington
Florida in 1963. |

Thanks for the plug here, Claude! I hope my recollection was entertaining, at least!
By the way, I watched Snow run that 214.24 mph pass forty-one years ago tonight...right about NOW, in fact! LOL! |
